Terms and conditions
In case of inconsistencies between translations, the Dutch version of these terms and conditions prevails.
These terms and conditions apply to participation in the Berden Hike and Berden Business Hike. They outline the rights, obligations, and rules for participants and the organizer. Please read them carefully to be well prepared for the event.
Article 1: Definitions
1.1. In these terms, the following definitions apply:
- Event: The Berden Hike.
- Participant: The natural person registered to participate in the event, individually or via company sponsorship.
- Agreement: The agreement between the participant and the organizer for participation in the event.
- Organizer: Scopias Atletiek.
1.2. These terms apply to every agreement related to the event.
Article 2: Participation
2.1. Only individuals who meet the minimum age set by the organizer may participate.
2.2. Participants must fully and truthfully complete the registration form, pay the entry fee, and agree to the terms and conditions.
2.3. Participation is personal and non-transferable without written consent from the organizer.
2.4. Transfer of rights to third parties is not allowed without written consent.
2.5. Cancellations up to 3 weeks before the event can be sent to wedstrijdsecretariaat@berdenwandeltocht.nl. After this date, no refund will be given.
2.6. The organization may change the route or cancel the event due to severe weather, emergencies, or COVID measures. No refund will be issued in case of cancellation.
2.7. The organizer is not liable for any costs participants incur due to force majeure. The next edition will take place one year later.
2.8. If the event is canceled at a late stage due to force majeure, no refund will be given.
2.9. The Berden Hike must be completed by walking only.
2.10. The organization may set time limits.
2.11. Participants who exceed the time limit will be disqualified and must return to the finish line on their own.
2.12. Personal data may be used for communication and stored in a database. Participants can object in writing.
2.13. All situations not covered by these rules will be decided by the board of Scopias Atletiek.
Article 3: Liability
3.1. Participation is at the participant’s own risk. The organizer is not liable for damages unless caused by intent or gross negligence.
3.2. If liability is established, compensation is limited to the amount covered by the organizer’s insurance.
3.3. Participants must have adequate insurance for risks such as injury, illness, or death during the event.
3.4. Participants declare they are physically and mentally fit and properly prepared. A sports medical check-up is recommended.
3.5. The participant indemnifies the organizer from claims by third parties caused by their actions.
Article 4: Personal Data
Personal data provided may be used to send information. Data may be shared with third parties for promotional purposes. Participants may object via email or post.
The organizer may publish names and results in newspapers and online.
Article 5: Dispute Resolution
Disputes will be resolved by arbitration under the regulations of the Dutch Athletics Federation or the Netherlands Arbitration Institute.
Article 6: Berden Business Hike
1. Participation
Open to companies, non-profits, and sub-units like departments or faculties.
2. Team name
Teams participate under their organization’s name, with numbering if needed (e.g. Company 1, Company 2).
3. Team composition
Teams consist of 3 to 5 people. Members may include non-employees.
4. Registration
Register via www.berdenwandeltocht.nl.
5. Participation limit
A participant may only represent one team per distance.
6. Applicability
The general terms of the Berden Hike also apply to the Berden Business Hike.
Article 7: Disqualification
The race committee may disqualify participants who break the rules or ignore staff instructions.
Article 8: Following Instructions
Participants must follow instructions from staff and emergency services immediately. Non-compliance may lead to disqualification.
Article 9: Traffic Rules
The Dutch Road Traffic Act and associated regulations remain in effect unless an official exemption has been granted.
